About the Author: Born on 30th November 1667 in Dublin, Jonathan Swift got his first job in England, as a secretary to Sir William Temple, a retired diplomat and an acquaintance of the Swift family. Swift was also ordained as a priest. After writing numerous essays and political pamphlets anonymously or under pseudonyms, Swift published his first major work, A Tale of a Tub, in 1704. He worked as editor of The Examiner from 1710 to 1711 in England. He addressed the most prominent social, political, and religious issues of the time through his biting satirical essays and novels. Two of his most famous works being Gulliver's Travels, first published under the pseudonym Lemuel Gulliver in 1726, and A Modest Proposal, a satirical essay published in 1729, suggesting that the poor should sell their children to the rich as food.
